Bringing home the baby..to meet our Beagles - Melbourne (VIC)

Hi, We have 3 weeks before the birth of our first baby and were after ideas for introducing the new bundle to our existing kids - 4yo and 3yo Beagles. We have been putting changes in place some changes to sleeping arrangements (caged now at night) but are there any other suggestions?

First of all congratulations. Secondly be cautious - as you did not ask the dogs if you could bring home a baby?..and now that baby will be your focal point, rather than the two other babies. I always recommend starting well in advance with desensitising the dogs to new things like pram, bassinette/cot, baby powder smell (put some on them, so they start smelling like), baby noises (get a tape made from a friends' baby crying), baby toy noises etc. Train the dogs not to enter the nursery room. Walk the dogs with an empty pram, so you get some practice as well, before your precious new load is put in any possible danger. Make sure that there is time for the dogs - eg when the baby sleeps. Try and keep them involved, but be cautious at all times. My general rule regardless of the dog breed is never never never allow a dog alone with babies and children ever ever ever.
