Dog weeing inside

Dog weeing inside

We adopted a rescue dog - female foxie cross, we already have a desexed male similar breed. Female has spay incontinence which we manage with medications and she still has accidents here and there (while asleep). She does however still wee inside which is behavioural. She refuses to go out in the rain, you can stand there for ages with a treat and she just won't go. Comes inside and wees on one of the rugs. Even wees on mat in own sleeping area. We have tried retraining with treats for going outside but she seems to just choose to go inside. She is generally happy and gets on well with other dog and family. Already replaced 2 rugs and she just keeps on doing it. i have cleaned up so much dog wee - our whole house stinks! Help appreciated.

REPLY: Dog weeing inside
We have a dog with similar incontinence problems and she is on Propalin - which works very well unless she gets too excited. It sounds to me there is more to it than her health problem as a reason for this. Few suggestions: Adapt her feeding and drinking pattern to better suit minimising problems. Confinement is a must. Take her out on the leash and not go in till she has done it and take her to the same spot at all times. Try and find a spot that is dry even when rains. Take distance and exercise leadership. Get a good behavioural trainer to help you and if in MEL, please contact us as we can help and it will be worthwhile - if only for the stress for you!
