German Shep X - hates cats - Geelong VIC

This dog is a wonderful animal, loves kids and other dogs and even people he doesn't know but has an awful hatred of cats. I have 3 cats, the neighbours have cats. What can i do as i take him for a walk every night. Tonight was nearly a catastrophy, he almost got one of my cats.

With the little info I have, it is hard to advice. May I assume that the dog I still young and but is desexed? It is normal for cats and dogs to have some altercations, but the cats normally sort the dogs out by giving it a swipe and that is normally the end of it. Suggest that you 'scent transfer' from the dog to the cat and visa versa. Move bedding between them, and also use a look warm facecloth to wipe the dog and transfer onto the cats. This ensures that all animal smell the same, and that will stop a lot. If persists, get assistance from a good trainer as it will stress the family.
