Toilet training an older dog

Toilet training an older dog

Hi there, my Aussie Bulldog bitch, who I got at 4 months (is now almost 9 mths) appears to be perfectly toilet trained during the day (will take herself outside), but nearly every night does multiple (sometimes 4) poos and wees in the middle of the night in my study. She only does it during the night, so I can't catch her. I don't feed her too late (6pm normally), and I leave her outside for 1/2 and hour before putting her to bed. Please help! I am going insane cleaning up dog poo every morning! I have a male aussie who I have had since 8 weeks, and he has never had this problem. Help!

ANSWER: Toilet training older dog
First thing would be to have the dog health checked by your vet. Second thing would be start feeding the dog 2x day - with the main meal in the morning, so the stool can be eliminated well before bedtime. Is the study the area where she is left when you leave? If, does she hate being left alone? Does she cry and whine? There are possibly several reasons but the most likely one is separation anxiety and therefore it is imperative to ensure she likes the area. Start putting her in there for short bursts, build it up etc ? and above all use a vinegar based solution to clean the area, as at the moment the remaining scent is enough for her to continue. If persists, get a good behavioural trainer.
