Dog Moulting

Dog Moulting

Grrr, there’s dog hair everywhere! Yes, moulting hair is a hassle, but it’s only natural for dogs to shed their hair. Think of it like updating the wardrobe for the new season. Most dogs moult twice a year, but some breeds shed all year round.

Why do dogs moult?

It actually has nothing to do with seasonal temperature variations. It’s due to fluctuations in the amount of melatonin secreted by a dog’s pineal gland in response to seasonal sunlight variations.

That’s why allergies, indoor lighting and central heating and early warm weather can all have an effect on your dog’s shedding cycle.

What can I do about my dog’s moulting?

You should groom your dog regularly to help remove dead hair. Learn more about grooming your dog generally or if you are in the Macarthur and need a hydrobath service in Sydney - Dirty Dogs is an established - non franchise - family business.
