Possessive Golden Lab retriever cross

I've just adopted a 6 year old Golden lab retriever cross. We went for a walk last night & then to play on the slides at the park. When my stepson when down the slide the dog went nuts and tried to drag him off? He has been with us for 3 weeks now, is he being posessive and shld I take him to see a dog trainer re: this issue. Not knowing where you adopted him from and what you know about him, it may well be in the dogs history. Not knowing how well the dog was socialised before he came to you makes it hard to pinpoint your action. I would watch carefully and ask your stepson to move slowly around the dog and not to challenge him. Dogs and children can be a great combination, however there is often also rivalry. It may settle down, and if not I would not hesitate to see a good behavioural dog trainer.
