Pitbull dog not eating

Pitbull dog not eating
My fiance and I just got a Pitbull back from his ex. He has trained her but hasn't seen her for 4 years. She will eat from him and drink from him. However I am at home 24/7 and she will go on a long hot walk/run with me and wont drink a drop of water until he comes home hours later. She sometime ignores my commands and trues to lead during walks which I don't let occur. Is her not eating a sign of dominance over me, even though she will eat a treat?

REPLY: Dog not eating
Is it possible for the ex or your boyfriend have trained the dog to only eat on command and/or the use of a release word (as used in food refusal training)? It could also be a sign of the dog missing the other person. It could also be dominance - there are quite some issues at play here. I would do the walk with him and you hold the leash and you feed/drink the dog in his presence, and eventually fade him out. An option would be to start hand-feeding her from her bowl, and after a while stop that. But I would check if she has been taught to only do this with him? If persists get a good dog trainer to help you.
