Aust terrier shitzu x barks at visitors WA

Our desexed male 14 month old barks savagely when anyone visits our house. He raises his hackles and goes crazy even though we are telling him it's okay and to settle down. He is also very protective of certain members of our household and will bark and raise his hackles if other family members touch these particular people. We have to lock him in a room when we have visitors and he just barks the whole time. He is ruining our lives but we love him!!!

Your boy thinks he is the king of the castle - and therefore can decide who can do what, which with his age (close to sexual and physical maturity) may get worse unless addressed. Showing transparent leadership is the key here - and refrain from telling him it's OK. Reprimand him with a firm ?ahah?. Use your body language - only pay attention to him when you want to. If persists get some professional help as this can get out of hand.
