New pup chasing guinea pig game

I've had my pup now for four weeks and he has just started to chase my free range guinea pig. I was hopeing they would get along being a puppy and growing up with it. When hes gets called the pup comes and the pig follows after him and bit like a game. But its not a game i want as the pup may get over boisterous and hurt him. Id rather not lock the pig up but find some way to deter the pup to leave him alone. any ideas

You are right that you enhance chase games, and therefore power games, where the puppy sees the guinea pig as a competitor and therefore MAY be a risk for the piggy.... I would have the puppy and the piggy interact on the leash only till this chase has been sorted out and they tolerate each other. Otherwise I would lock the piggy in safety. After all it is not a normal harmonious relationship between a dog and a guinea pig.
