mini foxie is a picky eater, ipswich qld

My 3 year old mini foxie has been raised on dry cat food as we also have 2 cats. I recently found out its not healthy for her and tried to swap to home brand dy dog food...she refuses to eat it even when mixed into her wet food at night..the cats have taken a liking to it though.

Yes cat food is high in salt and very bad for kidneys - especially for a young dog - and foxies are already prone to kidney problems..... So please change ASAP. I would recommend the following approach: move cat food to up high - so only cats can get to it. Buy good quality dry dog food - and get tin of water based tuna. Small teaspoon of tuna mixed in very well with dog food (so all dry food is coated and smells like tuna) and present to dog 2x day and certain times, leave for 15 min and when not eating remove. Slowly reduce tuna when adapted. Do not leave dog to graze.
