Dog pants and shivers at the same time

Our 5 year old mixed terrier has started waking in the bed at night panting and shaking (shivering)and seems distressed. The shivering is as if he is cold (he also does it when we tell him we are going to give him a bath) - so it can also be a nervous shiver. Is this a health issue? He seems to have plenty of water. It lasts about 30 mins and sometimes we will lie on the tiles to end it, though he never normally does. Please - any advice would be welcome.

This is definatly one for your vet. It might be some form of epilepsy; or similar issue.
