Q: Looking into getting a long haired chihuahua

we are looking into getting a long haired chihuahua but i need to find some info on them first. i need to know if they shed a lot of hair. and is it possible for them to be an outside dog? we are most likely going to keep it inside but my dad is unsure about the dog in the house. also do they get along well with other dogs and children?

Answer: Chihuahua
Long Coated Chihuahua's do have a under-coat so they do require regular grooming. I don't expect that they shed any more or less of their coat compared to most breeds. However, regular brushing and grooming will keep dead fur from shedding on the floor. The Chihuahua is more of a inside dog, as they can pick up colds and similar infections rather easily. They will also bark at the slightest noise, as they are very protective - so this may cause problems for neighbors is your little one if left in the back yard. Generally they are not recommended for families with small children as they can be a bit snappy, and considering they are so delicate they don't tolerate unintentional abuse from kiddies to well. With all of this in mind, if you do socliase and train your pup for a early age some of these things may be successfully avoided.
