We adopted a 2 year old Jack Russel Foxy cross from a dog shelter about 3 months ago. He has bonded with us well and has settled in. The one exception is that he poos in the house almost every night while we are sleeping. We have his bed in a spare room and he will poo in that room or in the lounge room. We never catch him in the act. Can you recommend some strategies for dealing with this? What would you recommend in the way of cleaning products as I know its important to get rid of any smells. We have tried rewarding him when he poos outside on his walks but this doesnt seem to make any difference. Any ideas welcome.

Hmmm ... I'm not sure about this one. Firstly it does take a dog a while to settle in to a new home, it might just be a matter of time. You also might like to change meal times, instead of the main meal being at dinner time maybe try moving it to breakfast time. Its strange for him to defecate in his sleeping quarters so I think changing meals times might be your best bet. If this all fails speak with your vet.
