Escaping Staffys - HEEELP!
Hi Bec, Have a mal and female staffy who seem hell bent on escaping our yard. If the female gets out (she jumps the fence), she pins her ears back and runs. The more we chase her and call her, the further she runs. The male digs his way out. He isn't too bad and just likes to socialise and come home. If they get out together they cause havoc and run dangerously onto roads, have attacked an old dog (in retaliation) and killed a rabbit. We are responsible dog owners and walk our dogs 4-5kms or more daily. How can we stop them from wanting to get out and if they do, to come back when called? Thanks, Sharon.

Answer: Escaping Staffys - HEEELP!
Ohhh. Bit of a tricky one! No doubt you are good people trying to do you best with some cheeky Staffys. I think the best idea is to speak to your vet regarding a proper animal behaviourist. I worry about the implications that may arise if there is another incident that is more serious. You may be held liable legally. I feel if you work with a proper behaviourist the issue will be resolved quickly and efficiently and it also implies that you are taking this problem seriously. It may be a costly exercise although I feel it is your best avenue. Qualified behaviourist work in conjunction with Vets so speak to your vet.
