can I use cat litter for my puppy to train on?

I have a new maltese puppy and because I live in a small apartment I am considering housebreaking her like a cat, using a cat litter box but which cat litter should I use? Or can I find actual 'dog' litter?

You can use kitty litter, although actual soil might be your best bet. Even simple newspaper could do the trick. The difference is that cats like to bury their business, and they will dog. Dog's don't do this, so all you really need to do is provide the place, what you choose to use shouldn't really matter.
