15 week old shtzu x maltese she is lifting the carpet at edges

i have a 15 week old shtzu x maltese she is lifting the carpet at edges and ripping into it,this is when we are home,my friend told me to put pepper around not working.My husband is furious as he didn't want me to have a dog he now loves her and plays with her but this is going to cause a big problem especially since we don't own the home.I don't know what to do please give me some advice Thanking you Callie

Is it only the carpet she destroys? To me it sounds like a anxiety thing. There is nothing really pleasing in this action for her, and I don't see what she thinks she is achieving. Rather than punishing her behavior, try ever so swiftly diverting her attention to something else like a toy. A 'kong' stuffed with some meat or similar might be a good idea. Hopefully after time she might atomically start attacking the kong instead of the carpet. Just be calm with her, and encourage her to believe her new toy is far more exciting than the carpet.
